How to Stay Motivated to Study During the Busy End-of-Year Season

The end of the year is busy, and study motivation can dip fast. But if you’re working toward a qualification, this period is also a great chance to build momentum before the New Year rush.

The end-of-year period is one of the busiest times for many people. Between work deadlines, family commitments, social events, and planning for the holidays, staying motivated to study can feel like a real challenge. But if you’re working toward a qualification, this time can also be an opportunity to build momentum before the New Year rush.

Here’s some study motivation for you so you'll stay focused, productive, and motivated during the busy November–December ‘silly season’.

    1. Set Small, Achievable Study Goals

During hectic periods, big study tasks can feel overwhelming. Instead, break your goals into smaller steps that you can complete in short bursts—like watching one lesson, revising one topic, or submitting a section of an assessment.

Small wins build confidence and keep you moving forward.

    2. Celebrate the small wins

You finally hit that ‘submit button! Congrats! Give yourself a pat on the back and get yourself a cuppa! Celebrating small wins boosts your mood. In a study conducted by PWC they found that people who set and completed goals were 28% more likely to record a positive mood. This seemingly small habit can have a big impact your overall performance – and assessment results!

    3. Schedule Study Time (and Protect It)

You don’t need hours on end, just consistency.

    Try:

    • 30 minutes in the morning
    • A focused hour after dinner
    • A short study session during a quiet weekend window

Put it in your calendar and treat it like any other commitment. When you protect your study time, others are more likely to respect it too.

    4. Remove Energy Drains

If your study environment is cluttered, noisy, or filled with distractions, motivation will naturally dip.

    Consider:

    • Cleaning your desk
    • Turning off notifications
    • Using headphones or productivity playlists
    • Keeping only what you need within reach

A calm space supports a calm mind.

    5. Connect with Your “Why”

When things get busy and overwhelming, it’s easy to get negative and lose sight of the bigger picture. Remind yourself why you started studying in the first place:

    • Are you aiming for a career change?
    • Want more flexibility or income?
    • Looking for a promotion in 2026?
    • Hoping for a fresh start in the new year?

Reconnecting with your goals can give you a renewed boost of determination.

    6. Use NBIA Support When You Need It

You might be studying online but with NBIA you’re never studying alone. NBIA’s Trainers, Student Support team, Facebook Group and Online Learning Resources are here to help you stay on track.

If you are stuck, confused, or feel as though you are falling behind, reach out early. We're happy to chat and provide study motivation for you! A quick conversation can save you hours of frustration.

    7. It’s about Progress—Not perfection

You are studying because you are required to learn something new. This takes time and practice. At NBIA, you can submit your assessment for review and feedback, to help you learn and grow, before the final submission (allowing you 3 attempts!). The first assessment attempt need not be perfect – otherwise you wouldn’t need to do a course!

    Final Thoughts

The end-of-year season may be busy, but it’s also a powerful time to invest in yourself. Staying motivated now can set you up for a strong start in the new year and bring you one step closer to your career goals.

With a little structure, the right mindset, and support from NBIA, you can finish the year feeling proud, productive, and ready for what’s next.
